Calcium Chaos: Derailed is a fun roguelite game in which you are on a quest to save the world from the necromancer and her undead army. In each level you will complete fighting sections with visiting shops, recruiting new people for your train and more like that.
I had a lot of fun while playing through the game, which took me around 3 a 4 hours. However, it started to feel a bit the same around the end. There are a few weapons and yes with upgrades they change a little but not enough to make them feel different. I had 3 preferred weapons from like the 7 or 8 main weapons and then it was just combining those with others to change their effect a little. This is totally fine but mentioning on the Steam store page how many combos there are possible might give the wrong impression and higher the expectations.
What I love about the game was the humor and the crazy boss fights. They felt different from each other and they did crazy things. Also the artwork and the passive upgrades were very nice! I also love that the game isn’t too long. It doesn’t overstay its welcome!
To unlock all the achievements you have to play 2 times through the game. First on any difficulty you like, and after you beat the game the hardcore mode becomes available. This is directly why the game is so challenging, there is an achievement to beat the game on hardcore mode without losing a life. You can backup your save from time to time to make this a bit easier, but it still will be such a challenge. Especially the last boss fight.
The other achievements are for most of the things you’ll do while completing the game, leveling up your weapon to the max level, having 10 passives at the same time, find the other recruitments, beat the bosses. There are hidden rooms, an an achievement to find 1 and to find 6 of them. They are not in the second area but in the other areas you can find secret rooms that will not be visible on your map. And last but not least, there is an achievement for buying every item from Sam on your train. I missed that in his wagon he has a shop as well, which unlocks new passives that can spawn in the levels. Highly recommend checking his shop out early on!
