Dandy & Randy DX

Dandy & Randy DX is a fun action adventure with a few shortcomings. It has no missable achievements and can be completed in under 3h, maybe even in under an hour.

Approximate amount of time to 100%: 3h
Estimated achievement difficulty: 2/10
Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
Is there a good guide available: Yes, Knoef has a good achievement guide and Achievement Land on youtube has a nice walkthrough
Multiplayer achievements: No
Missable achievements: No
Grinding Achievements: Not really if you first go for 7.5k money before buying anything
DLC-Only achievements: No
Speedrun achievements: No
Time-gated achievements: No
RNG-achievements: No
Does difficulty affect achievements: I’m unsure, after completing the game I saw the difficulty setting in the menu.
Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No

I’m a bit split on this review. I enjoyed Randy & Dandy in the past and thought that version was fine, it has some things I didn’t like, but it wasn’t just released and just a charming little game. This new release (the DX version) has a new level as far as I could find online but hasn’t much more improvements from what I could remember or could find online.

Some things that I was disappointed in are that there are no resolution settings, no keybinding settings, the load times are a bit long for such a small game but most of all, no skippable text. which means if you keep dying on a boss, you have to hear his story again, and again, and again… A skip button shouldn’t be too hard to implement in a new version and would be a nice QoL feature in the new version. I still like the game, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, it is nice and not too challenging, and just a lot of fun. I just had a little bit higher expectations for a DX version.

Here is what I wrote about the first version, which a few changes because of changes in this new version:
This is a short but fun action-adventure game. You can play this solo or as a local multiplayer game. There is a small story in the game; if you would like to know what is going on, don’t skip the intro when you start the game! This game has 6 levels. In each level, you’re trying to find 4 keys to open the way to the boss.

Dandy & Randy DX doesn’t have any missable achievements. I would highly recommend first saving up to 7,5k coins before buying anything. 2 Achievements are for visiting a specific spot in level 1 and level, but if you miss those you can go back and go there easily. The rest of the achievements are story-related and can’t be missed at all.
