I’m a bit split on this review. I enjoyed Randy & Dandy in the past and thought that version was fine, it has some things I didn’t like, but it wasn’t just released and just a charming little game. This new release (the DX version) has a new level as far as I could find online but hasn’t much more improvements from what I could remember or could find online.
Some things that I was disappointed in are that there are no resolution settings, no keybinding settings, the load times are a bit long for such a small game but most of all, no skippable text. which means if you keep dying on a boss, you have to hear his story again, and again, and again… A skip button shouldn’t be too hard to implement in a new version and would be a nice QoL feature in the new version. I still like the game, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, it is nice and not too challenging, and just a lot of fun. I just had a little bit higher expectations for a DX version.
Here is what I wrote about the first version, which a few changes because of changes in this new version:
This is a short but fun action-adventure game. You can play this solo or as a local multiplayer game. There is a small story in the game; if you would like to know what is going on, don’t skip the intro when you start the game! This game has 6 levels. In each level, you’re trying to find 4 keys to open the way to the boss.
Dandy & Randy DX doesn’t have any missable achievements. I would highly recommend first saving up to 7,5k coins before buying anything. 2 Achievements are for visiting a specific spot in level 1 and level, but if you miss those you can go back and go there easily. The rest of the achievements are story-related and can’t be missed at all.
This review for Dandy & Randy DX was written on 14 Augustus 2022, based on the current Steam version of the game which has 17 achievements at the time of writing this review. This information can be outdated, for example, when the developer adds or removes achievements or releases (new) DLC.
