What a great Tower Defense game with a cool and intriguing story! The story is so well done, and it has a lovely selection of characters, each with their own fighting style. It has no missable achievements. Completion time is hard to determine, but I would say around 13 hours.

I like tower defense games a lot, but I suck at them. However, Defender’s Quest 2 is great as it has so many settings that allow newcomers to the genre. The main focus of DQ2 is the story, and with so many settings to make it easier to jump into the genre, more people can enjoy the story.
And about that story, the story is great! After every level, I was already looking forward to the next level to learn how the story continues. And I find it quite impressive to add this deep of a story to a tower defense game, where most tower defense games don’t have a story at all. After a few levels, you switch perspective; this took me a bit out of the story, but with good reasons, and you’ll soon learn that it made sense why you switched perspectives.
Then there are those settings I talked about earlier. There are settings to gain more experience and/or more resources. You can decide for yourself how much to increase those and how much easier or harder the game becomes. The experience is used to level up, giving you skill points (until around level 30 or so, you don’t receive skill points anymore after that). The resources are used to buy new weapons, armor, and skills to use manually. It also has settings to skip the story, but why would you do that? The story is so good! What is also nice is that you can freely move your skill points around as long as you’re not in a level.
Defender’s Quest 2: Mists of Ruin has over 50 levels. Each level starts with a storyline, and then you choose where to place the different troops. You’ll receive currency to upgrade your troops during the level, so they have different attacks. You can also use that same currency to use the manual skills.
Most of the achievements you’ll unlock just by playing through the game and buying the available items. There is an achievement for finishing every level without any enemy reaching the end. However, you can return later to a level when you’re much higher, making it a lot easier. There are also a few achievements for combining different skills/weapons.
I give Defender’s Quest 2: Mists of Ruin 5 out of 5 stars.
