In Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine you play as Flibbius and will go to a nearby island to find a flying machine your uncle wrote you about. However, before you go there you have to help Notto to get ready before he can take you there and on the new island you’ll help the people living there as well in return for clues/items and flying machine parts.
This short adventure felt a bit like a point-and-click game. You have to find items lying around or that you get from quests to learn more about the flying machine. A big part of this is combining items, which can be done in the slots above your inventory. For example, a stock and a stone make a hammer. Sometimes you need to keep combing items to get to the end result, so, to keep the example above, that hammer can be used to make nails from some metal you found on the island.
Completion took me around 2 hours without a guide or the in-game clue system. I didn’t use that last one because there is an achievement for not having used it, which is missable. However, if you do use it, the game is short, and I think it takes around an hour or less to replay the game when you know what you’re doing. Most of the other achievements are part of the story, so I highly recommend not reading through them, but playing through the game and not using the hint system. One or two other achievements might be missable, but are less likely to be missed. (Building a bridge and using the canon).
I give Flibbius McDoogle and the Mysterious Flying Machine 4 out of 5 stars.
