Gacha Fever is a very colorful bullet heaven game. There are around 4 different stages with different monsters and bosses. You will choose between those based on the current bonus for each stage. For some you get more money, for others more experience and some allow you to buy items instead of weapons. It also allows you to craft items at the end of the stage if you have own the right items to make that new item.
I always tried to end a run on stage that gives more money, as you need a lot of money for the upgrades. The money you use to buy weapons is the same currency to buy the upgrades. So after finishing a run, I kept playing endless mode but without buying weapons and things anymore to rank up as much gold as I could to buy new upgrades after I died.
Gacha Fever has many characters you will unlock while playing and many many weapons. Most of them are good and it is nice to combine those that use the same stat so you can focus on increasing that specific stat. The only weapon I really disliked were the boxing gloves, as they warp you toward an enemy and that is just annoying. There are many areas on the gound that will hurt you and it ignores all of that and just warps you in the middle of those if the closest enemy is standing there.
I love bullet heaven games, they are so addictive and you always have those small goals to work toward. However, one thing I wish that would change in this genre in general is that games don’t explain themselves. For example, I thought at the end of each level you collect a bunch of money/experience that was laying on the ground. I thought it was just all of them, but I learned through the Steam forums that it is only the part that is close to you. Another thing is that the main menu of this game shows a leaderboard, and I saw myself rising on it… how I did do that…? I have no clue. A number behind my name increased but what that number represents.. I have no idea.
One last thing I would love to see is controller support. I love to play this type of game with my Xbox controller and the Steam page says “partial controller support” but the game didn’t recognize any inputs from my Xbox controller.
The achievements in Gacha Fever are very straightforward. Beating the different bosses at least once, and getting each hero to level 70 (so for this you don’t have to complete a run, just get to level 70). I would recommend farming coins very early on to buy permanent upgrades and then play on the second difficulty as that will help you to unlock more items/heroes faster. And at the end of each run, play endless mode while going for stages that give you extra money. Stop buying weapons and just farm that money ^^. The hardest achievement is the achievement “Don’t move” where you can barely move, which is a challenge with all the area of effects will be laying on the ground. I did move like 2 times one step when being so close to finishing a level and just had to move out of an area of effect. This didn’t lock me out of the achievement but no idea how much you’re allowed to really move. BTW this achievement unlocks after finishing a run, so I thought I had failed but gladly kept standing still until I died in endless mode. If I had known it would only unlock when finishing a run I wouldn’t have gone for endless mode and maybe already had it earlier but started moving again after stage 15 when it didn’t unlock?
I had a lot of fun playing Gacha Fever and unlocking all the achievements. It is an addictive game! I give Gacha Fever 4 out of 5 stars.
