Galactic Mining Corp is a spiritual successor to GEO. I can’t tell you what are the differences because I haven’t played the earlier title, but what I saw on the steam forum is this one a little bit less grindy and less challenging. I would also say that this one has better artwork.
In Galactic Mining Corp you will mine all kinds of planets to collect their cores. Everything you do helps you get stronger and getting better at mining. You’ll build (and later destroy to build better) rooms that give you stats increases. In those rooms, you can put crew members to increase the stats even more. Those crew members getting experience while you mine and will level up which makes them stronger. You’ll also upgrade the tiles and items you find so that they give you more money during your runs. And there are a few more things you’ll work on during this game. In the beginning, I felt overwhelmed and had no idea what to focus on because there was just so much, but gladly everything helps with getting better.
I enjoyed the game a lot, it is also very addictive. There are two points that could improve the game a lot in my opinion.
1. The game is very mouse intensive, and this is not the game for people with RSI or who get easily pain in their hand because EVERYTHING you do with the mouse, and not just clicking, but for the runs, you keep your hold your left mouse button down or keep click, and to make it harder for those with RSI to use the boost you hold the right mouse button down. This means that a lot of the time I had to hold both mouse buttons down at the same time. I would love to see keyboard and even better gamepad support for this game to make it easier on the body. I played this game too much in a short amount of time, it was quite addictive, but most of the time my hand did hurt during playing this game. This will absolutely be less the case when you play on short bursts.
2. I would love to see a “!” on the HQ screen when you can level up something in a specific menu. Since you’ll do that most of the time it would help to not have to open every menu when returning to your HQ. This will also help with the achievements since there are achievements for leveling up every crew member, tile, and item. And if they hit the upgrade option, they don’t receive experience till you manually upgraded it.
It takes around 40h to complete this game and none of the achievements are missable, which is very nice. Most of the achievements you will unlock by just playing the game, or keep doing what you already do to get stronger. Gladly you don’t have to get the third core for all the planets, that was something I was afraid of since later planets will become a lot harder. I highly recommend checking if you can upgrade any crew member, tile, or item when you get back to the HQ. Those are the most grindy achievements and especially the tile one will take the longest. As stated above you need to manually upgrade those things before you’ll receive experience for them, and they can upgrade 3 times.
