Grimoire Groves

General Info

Welcome to my achievement guide for Grimoire Groves. Warning: this guide contains spoilers. If you don’t want them, please don’t read through the guide before you finish the game.

If you are here to find out if any of the achievements are missable, they are not missable. So feel free to play through the game without checking any guide and look up later what you’ve missed.

There is a relaxed (aka easy) mode that you can use without missing out on any of the achievements.

Are you stuck at the beginning of the game and have no clue what happened or what you’re doing? After I saw my friend LochVaness struggle, I decided to make a beginner’s guide just for that very beginning, even when I hate to speak on camera. So maybe it can help you out as well?

General info & tips:

In Grimoire Groves, you’ll go to a dungeon to get resources, spend those on quests and upgrades, and then go back to the dungeon again. In the beginning, you can’t keep any resources between runs, so spend them all before diving back into the dungeon, aka the forest.

In the dungeon, you will want to water plants to receive their loot. Each plant has a color that shows you their element with which you need to “water” them, aka fight. One thing to keep in mind is that the game is quite challenging, but there is a relaxed setting where you won’t get damage from the attacks of the plants. What can help you as well is that plant attacks also impact other plants, so if a plant hits an area with sleep, every plant in that area will sleep as well. Another thing that I found useful is to keep the water areas in mind. There are spots with water you can only pass by dashing over them; most of the plants are not able to cross those, so you can stand on the other side and attack the plant from a safe distance.

During the runs you’ll meet many people who will have additional quests for you. This will help you build their house and increase your reputation with them. Baking goods with them also increases your reputation. I would recommend not spending the rare drops on the reputation of the people, as baking with them benefits you during the current run (as you bake an item that gives a buff) and you’ll need the rare resources for upgrades as well as leveling up your relationship with the spirits and the worm.

You can spend the resources you gained during the run in the garden. I highly recommend upgrading the fridge as soon as possible. You sometimes want to keep special items or when you need a lot of the same item for one quest from a person in the forest. The fridge helps with this. After that, I would recommend mostly finishing plants, as those will help you with unlocking new resources. After that, the shrines and the spells.

I would highly recommend just spending all the resources you can. Leftovers will be transformed into compost, which you can use to bake with people and buy from vending machines. However, there will be a point where you don’t need that specific resource anymore, and it will be turned into compost every time, so don’t worry about your compost, and feel free to just use it during the runs.

The goal of the game is quite big: Finish the garden. However, within the garden, there are many objectives, like planting seeds and building upgrades/spells. So set yourself a goal, find in your encyclopedia which plant drops those resources and where to find them, and go for it. Keep in mind that you don’t have to fight all the plants, if they are not the type you’re looking for, try to get past them and just search for the ones that drop the items you need.

Tutorial and other stuff

The following achievements are all based on doing something for the first time. So not all of them are part of the tutorial but it felt they fitted right into this category.

Plants Plants Plants!
Plant your first plant in the garden!
You’ll plant your first plant during the tutorial before you go to the forest for the first time.

First Exploration!
Enter the forest for the first time!
This is also part of the tutorial.

Safety First!
Voluntarely go back home with the purple portal!
Use the purple portal to get back home.

Getting the hang of it!
Plant your second plant in the garden!
This can be done with the Double Beanie you find during your first run in the forest.

A Small Step For A Witch, A Big Step For The Forest!
Unlock your first new spell!
This is also included in the tutorial. You get to choose between a few spells, so check first what each one does before you choose one.

A Gift To Someone You Like, Is Like A Gift To Yourself!
Gift someone a gift!
During runs, you’ll encounter other creatures than plants. You can give them gifts. I would not use this on those as you can increase their reputation more easily with their quests and baking goods with them. I would save up the rare resources to give them to the spirits and the worm in your garden.

Witch Power!
Craft a eternal charm at the workbench!
The workbench can be found in the garden. The items you craft here you can place on shrines, the first 4 spots of a shrine are just used during a run in that biome, but the last spot (you don’t have to place items on the earlier spots to be able to place an item here, you just need to unlock it) is one where the buff counts for all the biomes.

Gotta Do Something In The Forest!
Fulfill a quest for a forest resident!
You will find the first resident with a quest on the third level within the forest area. Before you can finish her quest, you have to find the Mudcorn seed and grow it to be able to get all the ingredients.

It’s Huuuuuge!
Plant a giant plant!
Defeat the first boss to unlock this.

Compost Has Value!
Use a vending machine in the forest!
You can find vending machines in the resident areas where you have build a house. There is one for buffs and one for an energy potion. It costs compost to use them.

Oh No! I’m So Clumsy!
Produce a burnt thing!
Try to bake a good with a person but fail the mini-game.

This is Technology!
Place an item in the reconjurator!
You can find it in some areas after building a person’s home and in your own garden after you build it. I highly recommend building and upgrading this first, as it is so useful to be able to keep a few items between runs or get them out of a fridge during the run to use them for a quest someone in the run has for you.

Plants

During your runs you’ll find new seeds. Plants that have a new seed for you have kind of a aura around them. You can only find one new seed each run, so if you’re only going after those, leave with the purple door after you find it. You find a new plant in the biome they will normally be found in after you plant them. So most of the common ones, the ones that will be in every biome, can be found in the first biome, and after that, when you unlock a new biome, you will find a bunch of new plants to plant and upgrade till it is available during your runs.

I highly recommend focussing on unlocking those plants as soon as possible, as you’ll need all the different types of resources. The earlier you unlock them, the more runs you’ll have with them.

Garden Novice!
Unlock 5 plant creatures!

Garden Appretice!
Unlock 10 plant creatues!

Garden Genious!
Unlock all plant creatures!

Rainbow Reward!
Plant the Rainbow Socks!

Building Houses

During your travels in the forest, you’ll meet other people. When you meet them in a large area where the mini-map doesn’t show a question mark, then you get to the place they want to build their home, and they’ll start a questline. I think all of them have 3 quests before you finally build their house, and they all require resources. In my memory, most of the quests require wood or stone at some point. So it might be a good idea to pick up some on every run in case you encounter them and already have the other resources on you.

In the third area of a biome, you will always find a character, and you have to build their house before you can move on to the boss and go further into the next biome in the same run.

Biker’s Bounty
Build Basil’s house!

The Bird Is Happy!
Build Dendron’s house!

Build Lillian & Beatrice’s house!

BFF <3

The following achievements are for getting all 10 hearts of the friendship meter with them. There are people and spirits, and I would approach reaching their max level differently. For both counts, completing a quest for them gives you one heart, and if you give them items but the wrong item, they will lose a heart.

People

I wouldn’t recommend giving people gifts at all. You’ll need them for so many other things, and people can easily level up by completing their quest and baking goods with them. Those goods will help you during your run, but it is a very cheap way to increase your reputation with them.

Spirits

During the questline of a spirit, you can give them gifts while you encounter them in the dungeon, but after finishing their quest, they will join your garden, and you can give them gifts there, which is much easier.

Become best friends with Wigglesworth!
This is the worm in between the portals.

Become best friends with the Earth Spirit!

Travels

Each biome has two big areas and a small area with a boss fight. Before you can move to the next biome in the same run, you have to build the house of the person who lives in that third area. After defeating the boss, you can take the portal to a new biome. And after three biomes, you’ll be able to travel to the Ancient Groves. There are four biomes, so you can choose which 3 to go through on your way to the Ancient Groves. Each boss gets stronger the later in the run you’ll encounter them, so keep that also in mind while choosing which biome you go.

Travel to the second part of the forest!

Senior Adventurer!
