Hell Architect Review

Hell Architect

Hell Architect is an enjoyable game with a fun and quite unique theme. It can be a bit buggy, save a lot on different slots, as it has no autosave feature. No missable achievements and takes around 20h to 100%.

Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No, but the sandbox mode can be very buggy while trying to get the achievements to get all items in one sandbox game

I enjoyed this colony sim/ base building game a lot, but it has its flaws. I love the quite unique theme this game has, I like it when developers try to do something different, that can be the theme or the game mechanics. I liked the humor and how you have to torture the sinners that ended up in your circle (aka your place in hell). During the campaign I had a lovely time, although it gets repetitive to start over from scratch in each scenario. Gladly they take some time and there are only 7 of them. I’m not sure if I would have enjoyed them as much when they would keep going on. The scenarios have a lot of humor in them and the voice acting adds something extra to it.

However, I have questions about how migraine/epilepsy safe scenario 6 is, because of the effects at the edge of the screen. you can see it in the following video to decide if you could handle that:

The other major thing is some of the bugs. Most of them weren’t so bad, like a voice line missing or other simple bugs the developers will fix. There is one bug that ruined my enjoyment at the end of the game a lot. For an achievement, you have to research everything and build everything in one sandbox mode game. This sounds fine, but the problems start when you get around 25 sinners, the game gets laggy and I decided to cut the roads from the portal to the rest and kill off the new sinners instantly, so the lag wouldn’t happen. After a while, the game crashed a lot… I have lost a lot of progress because the game crashed when trying to save. I used 4 different save slots and saved at least every 10 minutes after a while to not lose too much progress and get too annoyed, since I was so close to the finish line. I think I had over 15 crashes during the last 3 hours of the game while trying to get those last 2 achievements. This game doesn’t have any auto-save.. so when it crashes your best bed is your last save file. SAVE REGULARLY is my best advice. I told the developers about this frustration and they will work on this problem/ optimize the game.

The achievements in Hell Architect are very straightforward. Complete the tutorial and all the 7 scenarios and then do a sandbox mode to research and build everything. I found scenario 7 challenging, even on “heaven” difficulty but was able to pull it off on the secret try (barely.. only had a few minutes left as this one is timed).
