Kalinur is an enjoyable Metroidvania game. It is a bit rough around the edges but I enjoyed it a lot. You play as this warrior that tries to defend his king and defeat the evil mage that entered the kingdom.

The story is a bit bare-bones, and it felt like I was missing something. Where did this hero come from? Why him? but it is already, the story is not the main focus of this game. The game starts out quite challenging, but very early on there is a great spot to farm gold, and with gold, you can buy an endless amount of health or damage upgrades to make the game as easy as you want to.

A thing that was a bit confusing is that the settings of the game are saved in the save file, so the game always will start in full screen and with sound on, but as soon as you load your save file it will remember which settings you choose. I don’t think I saw something like that before, but I guess it works.

This all sounds negative but isn’t meant that way. I did enjoy the game a lot and even played through it a second time so I could make a guide. I can’t exactly explain how, but the Kalinur is quite addictive, I played through it within a day.

Kalinur has mostly straightforward achievements that will reward you for fighting the 9 different bosses, finding 9 relics (mostly after the boss fight), and finding all the coins. For collecting all the coins you might have to come back later to be able to reach them. The game has one missable achievement and that is getting the bad ending. or this you have to fight the kind before you collect the pendant. See my guide for more information if you don’t want to miss out on it.
