Kao the Kangaroo

A great 3D platformer with no missable achievements. All achievements can be earned within 10h. You don’t need all the scrolls, diamonds, or coins to be able to unlock all the achievements. I would recommend writing down in which levels you found health upgrades.

Kao the Kangaroo is a fun and enjoyable 3D platformer. The artwork is amazing, the eyes of the character are so beautiful. There is a ton of stuff to collect in each hub and each level, but gladly you don’t have to collect it all while still being able to unlock all the achievements.

I had so much fun playing through this game, and seeing with which crazy stuff the developers came up next and I wasn’t disappointed. A part of the story you can see coming from a mile away, but who cares, this is the type of game you don’t really play for the story, but just to enjoy going through the levels and finding the secrets.

I played this (and writing this review) a few days before the release of the new Halloween DLC and at this moment the game has some rough bugs. I have had a few “Fatal errors” mostly on the first boss, which made the game crash and I had to start over the fight. After the first hub world, it got better and I didn’t have many bugs at all, till getting back to the second world for the last “Eternal well” to find it for an achievement and after finishing that and the achievements popping, I had another “Fatal Error”. I have no idea what causes them, but I hear things should be more polished in this upcoming update and I hope that it will get rid of bugs like that.

The achievements for Kao the Kangaroo are kinda what you expect them to be, but also not so hardcore as many other platformers, which is great. None of them are missable and you can get them in around 10h. You don’t have to worry about finding all the scrolls, diamonds, and coins in each level as they don’t matter at all. The only things you need to keep an eye out for are the Eternal Wells, Eternal Runes, KAO letters, and the health upgrades. I got all the health upgrades without keeping track of them, but that can be one thing that if you missed one it might be hard to find one, so maybe scrabble down in which level you found them so you can later check if you are missing some, where you can find them.

The most challenging achievement will be to defeat a boss without tracking damage. This isn’t too horrible, you can redo boss fights and you can choose which boss you’ll try to get this on. I did go for the first boss as that seems the most doable. I got it before finishing the game, but looking back, the last boss would also be an option as I only got hit by him once.
