Kaya’s Prophecy Review

Kaya's Prophecy

Kaya’s Prophecy combines the gameplay from Stacklands/WitchHand with a deckbuilder. It is on the easier side, but I love that so the chances are you will beat the whole game instead of having to start over.

This review has a slightly different style than my other reviews because there are currently 2 broken achievements, so I haven’t completed the game myself yet. I think I’m halfway there with 3,5 hours of gametime, so I would think completion takes around 5 to 6 hours. I hope to return/restart later when those achievements are fixes as I’m enjoying what I played so far.

More about the game itself: In Kaya’s Prophecy, you have two different mechanics. There is the stack cards mechanic, where you stack cards combined with a worker to make a new item. For example, you have found an area card; here you can get resources when you place your worker card on it, but you can also make other items with those resources. This is not in the game, but as an example to clarify this: you can use wood and a string to make a fishing pole. Exploring areas of making things costs time, and the game has a day and night cycle. At the end of each day, you have enough food to play the next day, but the amount of food you need is based on the cards in your playing field, so you don’t want to just grind resources, as this would be very expensive in food at the end of each day.

The other mechanic in this game is deckbuilding, and this is used to fight enemies. Those fights will give you rewards you can use again in your village, where you stack those cards. You also get better cards for your deck as a reward, which makes you stronger in future fights.

The current difficulty is very doable, and I love that. I have a hard time with games where you can lose all your progress, and in those cases, I don’t mind a bit of an easier game at all. This is a nice introduction to harder “stacking card” games like WitchHand & Stacklands.
