A wonderful 3d platformer collect-a-thon with no time trials and no missable achievements. I love it! It even has a lot of QoL features, like when you die, the enemies you killed stay dead, and the items you picked up, you still have. It takes around 12h to 100%, and there are no missable achievements.

Approximate amount of time to 100%: Around 12 hours
Estimated achievement difficulty: 6/10 (Because of those pesky Remix levels, otherwise a 4)
Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1
Is there a good guide available: You don’t need a guide
Multiplayer achievements: No
Missable achievements: No
Grinding Achievements: No
DLC-Only achievements: No
Speedrun achievements: No
Time-gated achievements: No
RNG-achievements: No
Does difficulty affect achievements: No difficulty option
Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No
In PaperKlay, you play as Chick and Nugget, and you’re on an adventure to defeat Captain Nox, who stole all the eggs from your village. On your way, you will meet many people who have their own worries and tasks. And even cooler for an indie game… they are all fully voiced! PaperKlay wears their inspiration on their sleeves (Banjoo- Kazooie, Ratchet & Clank, Jack and Daxter), but they also improved some things, like when you die, the enemies stay dead, and every collectible you picked up, you still have. That last part is even so when you go to the main menu from within a level and then return to the game. I really love this Quality of Life feature, as even if a section is hard, it always feels like you’re making progress!
The game has 4 different worlds, each with a lot of collectibles in the main hub, as well as different levels within each central hub. You start out in the forest and then go through a snowy world and two more different worlds that I won’t spoil. You will see mostly the same enemies, but every world still has its own special tricks. You can speed run through the levels, and that way the game probably is around 6 to 8 hours; however, if you do your best to collect everything and find all the secrets, it is a few hours longer.
I’m also very happy that PaperKlay doesn’t have any speedrun achievements, or no death runs, or any crazy stuff like that. Each world has a hardcore level (they call it a Remix level), but for the achievements, you only need to finish those; you don’t have to collect everything in them. You’ll have to collect everything in each central hub and on the other levels to complete all the achievements. Furthermore, there are achievements for buying every outfit, buying all the upgrades, killing a Siccor with a paper rock, and killing 10 enemies with the same rock. That last one I did in the third world’s central hub when you change that world’s ” settings “. Keeping it still vague so as not to spoil too much. There is also an achievement for not getting hit during a boss battle. I did this one on the “moody teenager”.
Last but not least, I want to give kudos to WhyKev for fixing bugs quickly. I found a bug or 2, and they were fixed so soon and that in a hectic time, right before the release.
I give PaperKlay 4.5 out of 5 stars.
