Seer's Gambit

Seer’s Gambit is such an addictive auto battler that always gives you something to work on. I had a hard time putting this one down, I just wanted to keep playing and unlock more and more. it has no missable achievements and completion takes around 25h.

By the looks of the trailer, I wasn’t sure if Seer’s Gambit wasn’t for me. And auto battlers always make me doubt if I’ll be smart enough for them. However, playing the demo that was available before the game released, instantly sold me. Wanted to played for just 20 minutes or so, and before I knew it over an hour passed and I didn’t want to stop at all.

There are a lot of things that make Seer’s Gambit so addictive. The first thing is you have always something to work toward. By walking new paths on the map, you unlock new places, which give you more options to upgrade your party. Those upgrades costs resources you get during your journey, so even if your journey didn’t get as far as you wanted, nothing is lost as it will give you a bunch of resource to upgrade your party and get further the next time.

That loop on its own is already so addictive, but what even makes it more addictive is that you can let the characters use their ultimate ability when possible and just put the game on a high battle speed, as it is an auto battler. And seeing them slaughter the enemies is so fulfilling.

This all might sound as if it is such a passive game, but that isn’t the case. A lot comes down to choosing the right characters together, which weapon will they hold, in which location do they start the battle and when they level up, which skills do you give them. Another thing that I love is how important healers are in this game. In MMO’s I have always play the healer, so I have such a weak spot for games that let me play as a healer. And in this game you can’t get far without a healer or 2, but those healers aren’t weak, they can be quite skilled in battle as well. And even a full party of healers can work very well. They also add just such unique characters like a paladin kinda type, a druid, or a dark mage. They don’t call them that but if you played a few fantasy games, you will recognize a lot of characters.

Another important part is the synergy between the classes. Each class has 3 optional abilities if you bring the right classes together (or use very rare equipment to give you those class types). This is another part of the puzzle that doesn’t make this just an auto battler, but one you have to think about but don’t have to be smart for.

Furthermore, I quickly want to highlight how responsive the developers are. I’m so impressed with how quickly they are able to put out patches, based on players’ feedback. They listen so well to what the community says and find ways to implement those things. I write this 5 days after the release date and I think I saw a patch daily that implemented suggestions from players. And that for such a small team!

None of the achievements in Seer’s Gambit are missable. At the beginning of the game, you will unlock so many achievements as there is one for adding every class type to your party. A few of those class types are locked behind those upgrades you work toward, but most of them are already available at the start. The other achievements are for defeating different kinds of places spread all over the map. So just explore everywhere, which you already want to do because it unlocks more upgrade options. It took me around 25 hours to unlock all the achievements.

I give Seer’s Gambit 4,5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend starting this addiction 😉
