My favorite types of puzzles from puzzle magazines are Picross games and sudokus. However, digital Picross games are so much nicer because you don’t have to color in the blocks! I just like the logic behind them and that you get a lovely picture when completing them.
SherloCAT Holmes Nonogram is a nice game in which you get to solve 120 puzzles. They have different sizes, each category starts with a 10×10 and the last one is a 25×25. It offers options for hints, and has auto cross-off the numbers and fill in completed rows/columns.
I had to get used to the fact that in this game you get notified for wrongly crossing off a block as if it should not have a block. Most Picross/Nonogram games won’t check those and only the blocks you mark as has to be filled in. This lost me quite a few stars as I’m used to cross off and then while doing so think back and conclude I can’t know that yet.
I had a lovely time with SherloCAT Holmes Nonogram. My only complaint would be that somehow the lines of the bigger puzzles aren’t crisp. They show up as if you have zoomed in/out a picture too much.
Most of the achievements you’ll unlock by just playing through the game. There is one for answering the last 3 questions about the game where the crime happened, by who and with what, if you can’t find the answer for that, check out this guide. And there is an achievement for getting 3 stars of every puzzle in a category. The wording of this achievement sounds like it is for the whole game but gladly it is just for one category as you can’t make any mistakes and can’t use any clues.
I give SherloCAT Holmes Nonogram 3.5 out of 5 stars.
