SteamWorld Quest: Hand of Gilgamech

This is one of the best games I’ve played recently, I just love this game! The gameplay is so much fun, the artwork is beautiful and a good story. The game has 2 challenging achievements, the rest is easy.

Approximate amount of time to 100%: 27h
Estimated achievement difficulty: 7/10
Minimum number of playthroughs needed: 1, there is chapter selection
Is there a good guide available: Yes, IGN has a good guide for treasures and on the steam guide section you find an amazing guide from “jaege” for the other achievements
Multiplayer achievements: No
Missable achievements: Not really, for all the treasure chests you can see in which chapters you’re missing chests and go to those chapters
Grinding Achievements: Maybe some of the doing X type of damage, but there are not really grindy achievements
DLC-Only achievements: No
Time-gated achievements: No
RNG-achievements: Yes, for some achievements you’ll need a bit of luck on your side
Does difficulty affect achievements: No, you can get all the achievements while playing on the easiest level
Unobtainable/glitched achievements: No

This game is amazing! It is one of the best games I played in the last few months. I really like the artwork and the story of this game. Furthermore, the gameplay mechanism in this game is amazing. How you can combine cards and make nice combos, it is just so much fun! The game has a very good way to teach you all the mechanics and they are not too complex at all. This game will definitely go on my “Games I really love” list on my curator page, it is such an amazing game!

Most of the achievements are not hard, and you’ll unlock most of them while playing the game. For the treasure chests, you might want to follow the guide from IGN which has maps that show all the treasure chests. You can do this after completing the game since the chapter selection menu will show you in which chapters you’ve missed chests. For the other combat-related achievements you can find a very nice guide from “jaege” on the steam guide section. The two hardest achievements for me were “Tears of Gold” and “We Didn’t Start the Fire”, after some trial and error I was able to manage to get those two achievements as well.

The only two small downsides of the game I could find were that when you replay chapters there is not a really good option to skip. You can’t skip animations and to skip dialog you’ll have to wait till your characters start talking before a skip button pops up. As an example, there is a chapter that starts with an elevator ride, you’ll just have to wait till the ride is over, there is no way to skip it. The other small downside is that you can’t overlevel. When you reach the soft cap of the current chapter the experience you get from battles just drops to a very low point.

+ Amazing gameplay, so much fun!
+ Beautiful artwork
– not possible to overlevel
