Submerged is a short but lovely exploration game. I always find it impressive how a game can tell such an emotional story without using words. Okay, it uses a few words, but maybe a total of 8 sentences that only tells you what you will have to find next. All the story elements will be told by drawings and cutscenes. Which made that I was aware of even the slightest differences during the game before the game pointed it out.
I can tell here a bit about the story, but I’ll not because the game will tell you in a much better and immersive way, which I will only break down by explaining too much. The important thing is that you are stranded together with your brother (who is unconscious) in this sunken city. You’ll have to explore the city and find supplies.
I really enjoyed sailing through the city and finding all the treasures in Submerged. It is also very lovely and relaxing. I didn’t like climbing buildings as much as I would expect. Gladly it didn’t ruin the game for me, because it is only a part of the game. It also helps a lot that the game doesn’t overstay it’s welcome. It is exactly long enough to tell an amazing story.
