Sunset Motel

Awesome and short simulation game in which you run your own motel. Check in customers, do their laundry, feed them food… and increase your skills to buy upgrades and get staff to do the work for you. No missable achievements and completion takes around 7,5h.

In Sunset Motel, you run your own motel. First, you start by fixing two of the 10 existing rooms, so you can start small but earn some income. After getting those rooms ready, you can check in your first customers. They will ask you to bring their suitcases to their room, bring them food, and do their laundry. However, with more upgrades and skills, all those tasks become easier. You can also hire staff later on to take some of the tasks off your plate.

The game does a great job with the quests, showing you all there is to the game and unlocking new abilities to earn more money. Some might find it too much handholding, but I appreciated the pace and clarity without feeling like you’re constantly in a tutorial.

What I also enjoyed is that the game didn’t overstay its welcome. It may have felt even a bit too short, but I prefer that over overstaying their welcome. The only thing I disliked was having to fix/clean items in the rooms. I hoped you also would get a handyman at some point, but sadly, you didn’t. It would have already helped if when you entered the room, it was a bit clearer which items needed fixing, as sometimes it is hard to find, especially when it is a carpet under some items, so it has less light on it.

I’m very happy that Sunset Motel has no missable achievements! I love that you can play without worrying about them, and that you can upgrade your tools so you feel rewarded for the work you do, and that things get easier. Completion takes around 7,5 hours, and there are achievements for everything you can do in the game, but they are not grindy. Small tip: For the missions where you have to look around for items for the car mechanic and the antique man, you can have two active missions simultaneously.

I give Sunset Motel 4.5 out of 5 stars.
