Tempus Bound

Tempus Bound is an awesome little hidden gem. It is a puzzle platformer with 8-bit artwork. It has no missable achievements (it has chapter selection) and takes around 3 hours to complete.

Tempus Bound reminds me of The Pagemaster game on the Gameboy (black & white). I’m not sure why that title specific. It might be the graphics and a bit of the platforming. Tempus Bound is an awesome short puzzle platformer with an 8-bit color scheme. The game doesn’t have any text, but in a few cases, the achievement that popped up at specific moments gave some insight into the developer’s thoughts when designing that part of the game.

I had a lot of fun playing through Tempus Bound. There were a few times I was a bit confused or frustrated. for example how fishing worked, or the annoying mushrooms that disappear long enough after a failed attempt that I could start thinking about how stupid I am for missing that jump over and over and over… However, I know the developer is considering making them disappear for a shorter time, which sounds great!

I’m impressed by how much detail there went into the artwork of this little gem. How the looks of each region change, how many small details are added, and how the light reflects and shadows are incorporated.

Most of the achievements are pretty straightforward. Some are for finding all the collectibles, or catching every type of fish (the fish you catch is random, so you probably have to replay the last area a few times to find all the different fish. I like how the game also has an achievement for escaping the first area without picking up the torch. I hope someone will make a guide with where to find all the collectibles. You have to collect all the different fish and find all the collectibles for the other ending.

I give Tempus Bound 4 out of 5 stars.
