In The Precinct, you play as a rookie just joining the precinct that your father worked for before he got shot a few years ago. Your first day will be on foot on the streets, mostly writing parking tickets and getting familiar with the handbook. You’ll give parking tickets to cars parked on the street, blocking fire hydrants, or parked on the wrong side of the street. However, more types of shifts will open up over the course of the game, and you will drive police cars and follow criminals many times, and even fly the helicopter and help the police man on the ground to catch the criminals.

I’m not a lover of shooter games, but gladly, this isn’t a first-person shooter and has gaming assist. I was very intrigued by this title before playing it, as it looks cool, and I love job simulator games. I wasn’t prepared to like The Precinct as much as I did! I’m so impressed by all the small details like how the criminals you arrest appear in the backseat of your car and even move around a little while you drive. Or how your vehicle gets damaged (and can even explode if you really abuse it). But mostly, how cars would go out of the way for you when you turn your siren on. Not to say that everything works perfectly, as sometimes other cops take such a long route toward a criminal, or don’t do anything. but I’m very impressed by the little things and the amount of detail that went into building the city. There is so much stuff to find, and it feels like a real city, a bustling city where I wouldn’t want to live with all the gang violence going on, but it felt realistic in a lot of ways.

My favorite types of shifts in The Precinct were writing parking tickets, as they start out relaxing (but you know, always something will come up), or flying in the helicopter, as it is just so much easier following criminals that way. I love that there is a system that lets you find evidence for the main story while doing all the other tasks. During each shift, callouts will pop up for events close to you. However, I love that you can turn them off if you don’t want them right now, or maybe you’ve already gotten the achievement for doing 50 of them and just want to focus on other tasks. Another very nice Quality of Life feature is the option to add the charges automatically without you having to select them. I did it by hand for the first half of the game, but then switched, which speeds up the process so much.

The Precinct has no missable achievements. It has difficulty options in the menu, and you can still unlock every achievement when playing on the easier difficulty. There are achievements for the story, doing all the daily tasks, but there are also a lot of collectibles like hidden cars, finding plaques on special buildings, and finding artifacts that were stolen from the museum. So keep an eye out for those while playing through the game. The most challenging achievements will be for getting a gold medal on all the time trial challenges and on all the street races.

I give The Precinct 4.5 out of 5 stars.
