Traveler’s Refrain: 100% Achievement Guide

Traveler's Refrain

Intro

Welcome to this achievement guide for this awesome game called Traveler’s Refrain.

Traveler’s Refrain has some missable achievements, but they are only a few, and if you keep an eye out for them, you can easily get that shiny 100% completion. You can find the short recap below in this section if you don’t want to read this whole intro.

Traveler’s Refrain has 12 chapters, and late in the game (around chapter 9 or 10 or so) you’ll unlock a fast travel system. On each map, you can find a Map Bot, which will show you where on the map secrets can be found. Sometimes you’re missing an ability to collect that secret right now, but don’t worry too much about it because it is easy to go back later with the fast travel option. There is an achievement for talking with all the Map Bots, so you know when you’ve got them all.

There is also a curling-like mini-game. Winning all the Nix Ball mini-games is also an achievement, so when you can play Nix Ball, go for it until you win and receive the prize.

You also need to accumulate 5k Red Essence, which you use to upgrade skills. This comes from creators you fight, as well as objects you can destroy. I used a totem for most of the game to receive more Red Essence from enemies, however at the end I ended up with around 1K more than needed, so many this totem wasn’t needed.

The easiest achievement to miss is one for which you need to talk with a robot in the cell next to you around the end of the game. And use the item he gives you after fighting the 3rd Fate. Keep this in mind when you find yourself in a prison cell.

There are 2 points at which the game will warn you that you’ll enter a “point of no return”. The first one is before you fight the 3rd Fate. This is a soft lock for a while, and later on, you’re free to explore the map again. The second one is before the end boss, and you’ll know you’ll face the end boss.

Personally, I decided in chapter 11 to go out of my way and achieve all the achievements I could at that moment before proceeding further into the story. I felt a bit worried about missing stuff. Here are the achievements I hadn’t unlocked when continuing with the story in chapter 11, when returning to the factory for the second time:
Fate of The Mecha
Chapter 11
Chapter 12
The Forest
Final Choice
The Mysterious Device
Studious Musician
Master of the Forest

However, I had the device from the other prisoner, and I had collected all the other music sheets before entering this area.

So, a recap of the things to keep in mind to not miss out on any of the achievements:
– Win all four mini-games of Nix Ball.
– Talk to the prisoner bot in his cell when you can. He will give you a device. Later in the story, decide to help all the people and then use the device.
– Talk to all the Map Bots. The last one is in the large city before entering the final dungeon (Factory).
– Accumulate all the red essence you can for the achievement to have earned 5K Red Essence.

I hope you enjoy the game as much as I did! Please remember to leave a review on Steam, as this helps out the developers a lot!

Nix Ball Enjoyer
Defeat all of the Nix Ball minigame masters.
You can play a curling-like mini-game. You have to win all of them to unlock the achievement. However, you have multiple changes to win them. Here are the 4 locations:
1. The Nix Ball tutorial in the robot town
2. In the area where you have to stay hidden from the robots, north of there is a house you can enter.
3. In chapter 10, when you return to the robot town, you can do another Nix Ball minigame there.
4. At the start of chapter 11, when you enter the city’s plaza. It is a bit to the west.

Totem Collector
Find all the Totems.
Here is where you can find them all with behind it in which chapter I encountered them:
– Fox Totem: In a cave, after you opened the first door with 4 flames. (Chapter 1)
– Jackalope Totem: In the cave where you find the hammer. (Chapter 3)
– Scarab Totem: This one is close to where you found Bertrend the robot. You have to go through a few riddles and fights to get to the last room with the totem.
– Mole Totem: Acquired after the fight with the first fate. (Chapter 5)
– Eel Totem: In the dungeon where you unlock the whip. (Chapter 6)
– Alligator Totem: When you travel from the west area where you defeated the second fate back to the town in the middle, you’ll get warped to the area where this totem is. (Chapter 7)
– Bear Totem: for this you need the hammer. In the middle area of the map where some people lie, there Is this area that has a sign that tells you not to feed the birds. Move the thingy that is on the right inside the square and then hit it with your lantern.
– Ant Totem: Found this in an underground area in the area west of the robot town.
– Cat Totem: In the robot town, when you have saved the kid and talk to them again in the town.
– Salamander Totem: In the area directly after you helped the miner. (Chapter 10)
– Dragon Totem: This is behind the door with 3 locks as part of Dedekin’s quest map.

Let Me Help You See the Land
Speak with all of the Map Tower Bots.
Find all the bots on towers and high spots to see collectibles you have missed on each map. In the big city in chapter 11, he is northwest of the map.

The Thief’s Stash
Uncover Dedekin’s secret treasure.
You get the treasure map around the beginning of chapter 8 when you invite people to the party. On it you’ll see that you have to go to those small lakes with buttons around the. To open those doors, you have to press the buttons in the order the arrows show under the right “cloud”. So, for example, at the button spot around the second warppoint, you use the code that is listed under the green cloud. (Down, Left, Right, Down, Up, Right). To reset a puzzle, walk away from the door so the door closes again.

Secrets of the Ikal
Uncover all 3 of the Ikal Riddles.
This has something to do with the upgrades of spell in the lower right in the upgrade menu. After you bought those, you have to visit 3 statues and play that song in front of them. Part of the statues will light up when you start playing a song. Here are the locations of the statues.

The Mysterious Device
Use the Mysterious Device to route power to both the Mecha city and the town.
When you’re in a prison cell, there is a robot in the cell next to you. When you escape, open his door and give him the golden gear you have, you receive a device in return. After you defeat the third Fate you have the choice to help everybody and if choose so you can then choose to use this device to unlock this achievement.

Studious Musician
Find all the music sheets.
If you have collected everything outside the factory, you’ll find the last music sheet. It is a bit challenging to open the door to it as you’re going over several conveyor belts and have to hit the right switch with your whip within a time limit. Keep trying it before going to the boss’s room to be sure you get it.

Final Choice
Make the ultimate decision.
You’ll have to decide at the end of the game. For this achievement, it doesn’t matter which decision you make.

Master of the Forest
Complete all other achievements.
Unlocks when you unlocked all the other achievements.
