a roguelite where the repetition is maybe a bit too much repetition? Especially with 3 campaigns where you go through the same enemies and bosses. However, it has a nice variety of Steam achievements. From defeating bosses in a specific way, to finding all the upgrades, and dying in specific ways.

In Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade, you can choose between 3 stories at the start of the game. The main character of each story has a different play style and the story is a little bit different. However, the goal of the game stays the same: fight the same demon in all 3 stories, but the reasons you want to do that are a little bit different.
What I like about Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade is the combat. It is very responsive and feels good. I’m very bad at parrying, and I preferred using dash, as the button on the controller was just easier to press and less time-based. However, that way, I missed out on the characters’ special attacks.
The 3 stories start out okay to me. Nothing to write home about, but good enough. I hope that somehow at the end of each story they intertwine with each other, but I doubt that, as in each story, the side characters can have a different job, or even be a different boss. So goes one person from Master, to father, to king. But… maybe something will be revealed around the end that can explain all the story, some time travel or different universes?
Sadly, I don’t feel compelled to complete Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade, and I can’t pinpoint what makes it that way. I think a part of it is how repetitive the game becomes. As for each story arc, you’ll see the same monsters and bosses with the same effects. However, this is quite normal for a roguelite, maybe not that you have three stories and looking at the same monsters for 3 campaigns, but many are even longer than this, so this still does not explain why I feel resistance to having to go again and again. Maybe it is because after you beat the final boss, the game will start a new chapter, and the monsters get stronger, and you have to go again? It felt less rewarding to finally beat the last boss and then go through them again. You get stronger as well, but I didn’t feel overpowered or anything, so maybe that is missing for me? That you have to go through the same monsters and bosses within the same story arc and knowing there are 3 story arcs is for sure a factor in me not feeling up to it, but then again this is a roguelite, it is also quite normal to go to the same monsters over and over again, so why does this feel different?
What I can say is that I thought the stories get better over time, the extra information that will be revealed later on makes you understand the characters more and there can be interesting twists going on. So in that way, it is rewarding to go through everything again.
I give Yasha: Legends of the Demon Blade 2.5 out of 5 stars.
